Farmall H Timing

I bought a Farmall H and it needed a carb job so I rebuit the carb and put in new plugs and cap and rotor. After I did this I needed to severly adjust the timing to get it to run and it still does not run right, it pops and misses at higher RPM, no matter where I time it, adjust points or adjust the carb. I pulled the distributor out and the other two parts all the way to the gear on the crank. The main drive shaft off the crank was alomost missing the key. After I replace the shaft how do I put all of this back together to make it run correctly?
