On my 860, the #1 plug is the one on the left when facing the distributor. The rotor moves in a clockwise direction. You can make sure this is the same on your tractor. Disconnect all the ignition wires, remove the distributor cap, and pull the #1 spark plug. Get somebody to crank the engine over while you have your finger over the #1 spark plug hole. When the pressure tries to blow your finger off the hole, look at the distributor rotor. That is the spot where the #1 spark plug wire should plug into the distributor cap. Good luck.
