The 300 Six is a great motor, we had a '66 and I still have my '96 150 xlt 4x4 with 130,000 some odd miles, am in the midst of replacing the 5 spd mazda M5R2 transmission, with a rebuilt one, that was an isolated problem that never was made right. That particular trans was not the greatest design for heavy towing and abuse, but fine for regular use. I've towed a little with it, and it did fine, overload any truck and it won't pull well on the hills, I've know many others with the 300 Six and it was a great motor to have in a 1/2 ton, mine was the last year they offered it, it's a keeper.
