You can google XIT ranch and find out lots of things about it. Texas online handguide has a good story on it. It was once part of where I live now in Parmer county and the old Las Escarbadas headquarters ranch house was once in the draw 8 miles NW of here in Deaf Smith county. The old ranch house is now in Lubbock 110 miles SW in part of what is the Ranching Heritage Assoc. Museum part of Texas Tech University. Was several ranch headquarters houses on XIT and many in this area had relatives that once worked on the ranch. There is another XIT museum in Dalhart TX also: http://www.xitmuseum.com/history.shtml Dalhart still has a XIT Reunion and rodeo every August. The XIT brand was used to thwart rustlers and could be made with a simple straight running iron but some rustlers tried making it into a giant star that would really stand out and get them caught at it. There was a Star Ranch later also but it wasn't near as big. XIT meant 10 in Texas because the ranch encompassed part of if not all of 10 counties in the Texas panhandle. The 3 million acres was sold off to finance building of the $3 million red granite Texas State Capitol building.

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
