4000 Ford glow plug

My Ford 4000 3cyl deisel came without a glow plug and it makes it very hard to start on cold mornings. Ether works, but I would rather find a better way to start it. Any suggestions? Is it possible to drill a hole in the intake, tap it out& add one? Any help would be appreciated.
