I remember seeing that show myself many years ago . The old guy had a set of rolls and made a big round clamp to hold the staves together and topped the whole project off with some red barn paint . You brought back some fond memories .

My Grandfather had an old mill with a waterwheel too . He had a machine shop and woodshop that ran off the wheel . He also generated power and ran his house on DC current years before the REA ran power to the area . He also set up the first phone lines in the area by connecting his house and his father's house a half a mile up the road using some surplus military field telephones . Unfortunately , most of that was before my time and I did not get to actually see it myself.I have seen the manure spreader he built in the 1940's to spread chicken manure . It was pto powered and the drive train was made up of old transmissions and rear ends and had a big disk to ditribute the litter . It was quite a piece of work ! My Grandfather always said that it is the only thing he ever invented that he would not stand behind ! When I was a kid , he and I worked on all kinds of old sawmills , planers and tractors . A lot of this stuff had sat in the woods neglected for years but he could always get it back in working order . He never had much growing up and always worked hard to keep what he had working .His generation had to make do with what they had .

Most people have no regard for things now . As you guys have said , we live in a disposable world now . At least us old tractor nuts are trying to preserve not only old equipment , but also the principle of respect .

Keep up the good work and recruit some young people as well . I am planning on buying my son and me "our" first tractor to restore as soon as he is big enough to help just like my Dad and I did .

I know there are a lot of you who have used your ingenuity to build some unique tractor implements and accesories . If you have , please share them with the rest of us for inspiration .
