I'm a boomer and it's interesting to me how few of my fellow engineers have ever gone to a junkyard ("recycling facility") to pick parts. Unfortunately we live in an interdependent, controlled, disposable world that is made more so every day by the unholy alliance of ever- increasing computerization and all encompassing legislation. Pop the hood on a '63 automobile and compare it with anything built today and you'll soon see what I mean. I'll bet Ben's tools and work enviornment didn't meet all the latest OSHA specs.
