Glen, I hear you, But I do belive, that yearling cattle can smell, 6-sence, or something,,, when a fence goes dead!! I have a spool that I has 7 or 8 miles of 14 gauge Smooth wire on it. I havent used it in 14 years now. My BIL has a a 6 ft x 5 ft spool , it is a 3 pt tractor mounnted, PTO run rig. If it has a mile, It has 50 to 60 miles of wire on it. He used it when he was takeing in cattle on the gain on wheat pasture in the high Texas Panhandle. It is all smooth wire too. Don loose the Idea a barbed wire, unless your cows are fence brakes.
