Are you saying that it only does this when the transmission is in reverse gear but not when you're in any forward gears? Clutch chatter or poor engagement can be caused by a number of things--leaking oil seals and oil on clutch, flywheel & pressure plate, could be a flywheel surface (runout) problem, maybe a bad spring on the pressure plate--to name a few. If its only happening in reverse gear then the only thing I can think of is maybe you have some excessive backlash in the reverse gear train somewhere or maybe even some damaged/broken teeth thats allowing too much slack while operating in reverse only. That's a long shot but I can't think of anything else that would only happen in reverse.
