By the time it is knocking it is too late. You might get away with things a little more with spun-in bearings, but with thin wall bearings it is already far too much clearance. Not sure of the engine timing cover/seal arrangement on the engine, but there are tricks to get over a wear line. Using a sleeve for a new surface is one, using a different seal (to seal slightly further along the shaft) is another. Is there an oil thrower inside that seal? Was the timing cover properly aligned (if appropriate) when the new seal was fitted? Is there crankcase pressure building up for any reason? Is the oil level at the correct level (even does it have the correct dipstick?)? I am asuming it is leaking around the shaft and not around the seal. There is more to a simple oil seal than just simple. From your post I am presuming you don"t know too much about things like this. Also I am not sure what you mean in your post when you say "both seals". If it is the rear crankshaft seal you may eventually get oil on your clutch if it gets too bad. The design takes care of small amounts leaking but not lots - and I don"t know what you think is too much to bear - too subjective for me. Hope this helps. Regards, RAB

After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
