I play the doghouse bass in local jams and am also playing in a band that does a few gigs now and then. A bunch of us are starting a weekly jam on Monday nights at a senior living residential community where we can jam and entertain folks at the same time. There are also local jams on Wednesday nights, two different ones on Saturday nights, and soon Thursday nights. My heart is in informal jamming and not really being in bands, as I"ve been in various bands all my life and it just doesn"t thrill me anymore. I don"t like to go to bluegrass festivals with the big name bands either because I"d rather be pickin" acoustically with a group under a tree than sitting all day listening to amplified bands that come over as loud as rock music or country rock, which don"t sound at all bluegrassy to me. Some of the nicest people I"ve met are bluegrass pickers. Never have played guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, or banjo. For some reason, bluegrass music and old tractors seem to go well together.
