Definitely 12 volt system. Chevrolet switched to 12 volt in 1955, it was 1963 before an alternator was seen. Maybe 64 on some trucks. Should be a pretty good truck, is it a v-8? in wet and muddy Nebraska, john

Earthmaster Project Progress Just a little update on my Earthmaster......it's back from the dead! I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned. But alas, my carb foiled me again, it would fire a second then flood out.
