Simply put yore tractor don't care if it's neg or pos ground, AS LONG AS ALL systems an components are grounded an or polarized the same. If the generator an coil are wired/polarized for pos ground an the battery is installed neg ground (backerds), then yore generator is tryin to DISCHARGE the battery and yore coil is trying to make sparks while sufferin reverse polarity. Untill alternaters an computers got involved electricity could go either way, but it can't go both ways on the same vehicle. By the way yore lights couldn't care less.
