Sounds like you have a fun one here. So far so good. My first rebuild was on a 800 diesel ford with the 172 sleeved engine. It was toasted with to much either. Pistons with broken skirts bent rods the whole nine yards. I wish I had you problem taking them sleeves out! A day and half later I had them out.
So, back to your engine. Is the oil pan off? If so spray PB up on the bottom of the piston sleeve area. Also spary inn sid eof the piston where the wrist pin is too. There is holes that lead out to the oil wiper ring and will help get lube out there. Now turn the engine back to draw the sleeve down. The reason I say this is that it would be best to remove the piston from the sleeve in block. The sleeve are very thin and break real easy once they are not supported by the block. Right now I can not rember if these engines ran a blot or studs for the head. So either way use a washer to clamp the sleeve in place with light pressure once its setted back into the block. Then lube the H out of it some more. Slowly and with light pressure turn the engine to bring this piston up. it should turn smooth with no jerks or jumps. If it does back it up after lubing from the under side again. Do this till it can be turned over by hand a full rotation. Then remove the rod cap and remove piston from sleeve. Then use a sleeve puller to pull the sleeve if it does not come by hand.
Most of the tiem these sleeves are a very tight fit. Some would put the sleeves in the freezer for a day or 2 and heat the cylinder block with a light bulb inside ti expand it. They can be bad to get out !. Use a little of the sleeve retainer from Lock tite to hold inplace. The head and head gasket clamps them into place once everythign is torqued down.
