My hay is not much this year. Usually ready to mow by this time of year but this time it came a late freeze and set it way back then has not had a decent rain since. I'm not much excited about starting this year. Also it is becoming harder and harder to find help to throw square bales each year. Last year I got 800 bales soaked 2" deep while in the bale because help did not show up as promised. Although round hay does not bring much around here, I may just do lots of rolls this year. Can't figure it out. Fertilize is up around 1/3 from last year, string is up, fuel is up, yet when I ask other hay farmers what they are going to sell their rolls for this year, their reply is 20.00 per roll--- same as last year. Why don't they say 30.00 or 35.oo per 4X5 roll. Even at that rate you don't make a lot on it. It's hard to sell hay for what it's worth when people can keep buying it for 20.00 per roll. I think a lot of people must like to put up hay just for fun.
