Older Transmissions(Automatic)

I have a C4 and C6 3 speed automatic transmissions I was getting rid of(freeing up some space)and the local transmission shops aren't even interested in them,said they are too old.I was kinda surprised by that remark but I guess the day of the old 3 speed is over huh!I want to sell them,not throw them in the scrap metal pile,there is someone out there needing one.Have any of you put in a overdrive in a 79 F250?Thanks
