Have you added any new programs lately? My problems started after removing Norton and installing System Mechanic as my Anti-virus/disc utility program. Ended up wiping my hard drive clean and reinstalling the XP system. Then there are the hours it takes to re-update the system. If you don't have the time or knowledge to do this, find a repair shop close by and let them do the work. May cost $20-40 per hour or somewhere around $30 for them to do the reload. Or they can tell you what the real problem is and if it is worth fixing. The 2 biggest killers of PC's are dust and heat. Followed closely by power surges. Note that these are killers and not just disablers. Viruses can be removed but damage caused by heat, dust and power surges require replacement of parts rather than software. Some computer shops will use your old hard drive and any other usable parts to build you a new computer. Biggest cost of a new computer is the software not the hardware. Since you already have the software why not use it?
