Dont think the pump would have just rotten away if no one took it. I very well knew its worth, as so did my late grandfather. It was in good condition, with little rust. I know what is valuable, and take care of things, as well as the other equipment of my grandads. If grandma was mentally with it, she never would have let him get away. I hope this guy comes back hoping to get his hands on something else of value and I can nab him, or I can find someone who knows of him.
This guy drives a red chevy pickup and has a son with him in his 20's as I have seen him before and pushed him off. He supposedly is from the north end of Grand Rapids, perhaps has antiques for sale.
