FWIW: A book I just got sez every Cat has three number plates; on engine block, usually left rear viewed from flywheel; on machine (PIN) for tracked crawlers on left rear of main frame directly under fuel tank, for tracked loaders same place but above track sprocket; and "in operators compartment which lists engine, trans and machine numbers". Oops: is that wheeled? they're differennt, too..."machine PIN on left front of main frame. On older models forward and under trans on left of machine.Scraper ...on left side of bowl behind draft arms". Now all you have to do is find out, on yours, how far reality differs from theory.
