My wife and I went to Hawaii last year and visited our daughter and son in law who lived and worked there. They lived in Honolulu but we took a plane to the big island of Hawaii. The big island would be my choice to go back and visit again, lots more open and not so commercialized. The big island is truly an island of fire and ice. You have the volcano, which is freaky and then you have snow on top of the 2 mountains. The Parker ranch has 15,000 head of beef cows, and then there are smaller ranches also, more cattle than I had thought would be in Hawaii. The ranches have grazing land all over the island and there is not really a big layout of buildings anywhere, just a fenced in area with a loading chute. No mud, no bugs, mild temps, almost every morning is a shower of rain, so the grass is belly deep all year around. Saw some signs of macadamia nut farms but didn't have time to visit them. If you get a chance tour the Waipio valley, you will need a 4x4 of somekind to get to the bottom as it is a very steep incline for about 1 mile down. But at least go to the top and view the scenery.
