I think you are doing well considering what you pull. I have a 1 ton Chevy box van and an old Toyota 1/2 ton pickup. Now consider. When I put 1 ton in the toyo( 52 bags x60lbs- well over a ton) I have shock problems and gas mileage is the last thing on my mind I just want to get there. You can destroy a little truck that way.At one time actually it delivered 29mpg. My 350ci 1 ton hovered around 10 mpg all the time but it had at times very heavy machinery in it. i look at these semi's going past and am not sure what their mileage is but they move many tons at once. I'm not showing them anything about conservation no matter how I overload a small truck. These balances which are safe cost us in mpg. The things I see are huge SUVs run to the grocery store and around town all the time when their real use may be 2-3 times per year. Aprox 15 mpg.Wait till all these ABS and unmaintained hydraulics hits the fan.
