I think those so called "ponies" are, to a high degree, make-believe. A 6 liter certainly does not have twice the pulling power of a 5.7 liter 350. Torque is what gets you places and normal engine RPMs - not calculated and rarely experienced peak horsepower. A good 350 can make 330 lb. ft. of torque at 2800 RPM. A 6 liter is rated at 355-375 at over 4000 RPM. I suspect at 2800 RPM it's not much different than a 350. That's sort of poor comparison. How much driving and towing does a person do with the engine running at more than 4000 RPM? I've got no argument that the 6 liter can be a good running engine, but it does not have "twice" the pulling power of a 350 - no where near that. I've pulled trailers with both and noticed little difference.
