My nephew has an 07 Chevy crewcab diesel that I have taken on a couple of trips. Running empty at 60 to 75 mph, it got just 18.0 mpg. Pulling a trailer it got 8.5 up to 13 mpg @ 60 mph. My 05 Chevy regular cab has done up to 4 mpg better, but with the new low sulfur fuel, it is not any better than his 07. He has a friend with an 07 Ford; he hasn't seen 10 mpg running empty. The 06 Chevys with the 6 speed Allison sounds like the best combination.
