Here in NY they don't recomend spraying for leaf hoppers as general rule. They make the crop look bad but it is still quality forage. Maybe they come in here late enough in the season that we can get away with not spraying. Spraying kills the tiny parasitic wasps that keep the alfalfa weevil under control. The weevil will destroy a field of alfalfa. Alfalfa can tolerate the leaf hopper.
