Of course the 620 idles smooth. The 620 has an idividual carb per cylinder on a 180/540 engine. The A shares a single barrel carb with a 180/540 engine. The single barrel two cylinder Deere's snort for the same reason a Harley snorts. Installing a new distributer bushing, ensuring operation of the advance weights and a Pertronix ignition will stabilize the timing.
