The dog may have ben the killer, then. A lot of dogs will kill rabbits without eating them. Yes, tularemia is potentially fatal. I really should just look more into it on the web, too, but you should see just how much of this stuff I do wade through as "new" bugs come and go with wildlife and even domestic animals. I do remember well that one of my aunts while practicing in Virginia, lost a patient to this disease back in the early 1970's. She is afraid to eat wild rabbits to this day, but I still eat them. By the way, my legit excuse for collecting road kills is to feed to raptors and other carnivores in captivity.
