Was the tractor stored outside? If so, you may want to check your oil level. I have seen several tractors with large amounts of water in the crank case from sitting outside. A high oil level could cause more blow-by than normal and water in the oil could cause more knocking than normal (in addition to being bad for the engine). If that checks out fine I would just run it a bunch and see if the problem clears up.
