Besides the millions of IH tractors with he factory dual 540/1000 shafts, dont forget the Mini Moline's that had basically the same 2 shaft 540/1000 pto. Another is Oliver which had the plug in 1 shaft 540/1000 pto where you could plug another shaft in the top hole and have an engine speed and rotation shaft in addition to your choice of a 540/1000 shaft below. I have a good story about that Oliver engine speed pto option. I had an old engine driven 3 phase gen set that I picked out of a scrap yard with a bad engine that I wanted to use to power a grain dryer. I knew from the Oliver op manual that the engine speed pto could be fitted requiring only the little casting that the pto shaft plugs into to install. I removed the engine from the gen set and fitted it with a front bearing and pto stub shaft. With the generator coupled to the engine speed pto of the 1900 Oliver, it would run it very economically at only 1200 rpm. The funny part was when I got to the Oliver dealer to buy the pto adapter casting. When I told the parts guy what I wanted he bristled up and demanded to know why I wanted that thing ??? When I explaned to him that I wanted to use it to run a generator at part throttle 1200 rpm and understood what it was, he calmed down. He said the reason he got upset was that another fellow had bought that exact same setup thinking that it was how you added a 1000 rpm pto to his tractor. It seemed the guy had bought a new forage chopper that needed a first for him 1000 pto shaft . The parts guy said that attaching that forage chopper 1000 rpm shaft to the Oliver engine speed pto which turned it in reverse at 2400 rpm blew the chopper knives right off that new chopper. lots of damage to a new machine.

Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
