Last summer I did exactly what you are considering. I'm very happy with my decision to buy a Ford 3000. It has a lot more horsepower, 8 forward and 2 reverse gears, live hydraulics and pto. And, it still fits on my 14' trailer if I choose to haul it. There are a number of good choices; this works for me.
