It could be the infamous S-O-S (Select-O Speed) tranny that has failed. It was one of the earliest power shifts in the industry and the earlier ones had reliability and durability problems. Years ago, I had an old-line (four cylinder Diesel) Ford 4000 Industrial TLB just like yours with the SOS that had some issues. It had lost a couple of gears and cost $2800 to fix and that was back in 1991. The older ones were known to have some issues, but the later ones were a little better, by 1975 they were fairly decent, but after that Ford dropped it. The hard thing is finding someone to fix it. If yours had survived this long, especially in hoe service, it was probably one of the better ones. Sounds like a loss of hydraulic pressure somewhere or maybe a band let go. Wish you luck.
