To my understanding they don't have any SAE markings to keep costs down. It costs millions to get that approval so they just pass on the savings by not spending it in the first place. I know that sounds silly, and you are probably asking yourself why would anyone use an oil not SAE approved. But if you have ever bought freezer beef you are doing the same thing. You know that beef is way better than from the store which has to be FDA approved but the freezer beef has no FDA sticker. Farmer could get it FDA approved but at what cost? I have personally just switched three vehicles and got a neighbor to switch two and so far so good. I gained 1 mpg on my '96 diesel and 1/2 mpg on '00 Denali. Just changed the last truck over so no milage check yet. Mobil 1 is a good oil but I don't think it is quite as good as Amsoil plus Mobil 1 doesn't warrant extended drain intervals past the OEM's recommendation that I know of. Amsoil will warrant and upto 35k on some of their oils. There are cost savings by doing the extended drains even though the Amsoil is rather expensive. I suggest checking their site for more info.
