Customer called Dad this past winter with a big Thompson dewatering pump that wouldn't start. They had started and ran it for about two minutes and it shut off and wouldn't restart. When dad got there the first question he asked was did it have fuel...he was told "Yes, it has fuel, we checked and we topped it off Friday"... That's a 50+ gallon tank, they said they had checked, and had already had it running so Dad didn't bother check himself. He spent about 45 minutes checking the safety shutdown circuit, fuel transfer pump internal filter, etc and still wasn't getting fuel to the pump. He finally went and checked the tank for himself and you guessed it, it was dry as a bone. Someone had come on the site over the weekend and siphoned every drop of fuel out of the tank. Not only did they lose 50 something gallons of diesel it also cost them for a service call to be told they were out of fuel.
