I had an 8N once. I had the starter rebuilt and I don't remember taking the starter apart. Look behind the starter for a bolt in the least convenient position. Some AC use a set screw at right angles to the starter in the side of the hole in the block. While having brushes fitted, also put in new bushings and be sure the wires from the battery are fat, say 1/0 or larger. It will start good then. Mine did. Gerald J.
