I have been told that it is possible to drive a hydraulic pump off the front of the tractor by connecting the shaft on the pump to the crankshaft nut with a rubber cushioned coupling. As a matter of fact, I think I've seen it done. Then I was told that it wouldn't work well because as soon as the pump is under load, the possibility exists that the nut will be backed off (I'm talking a right hand thread nut here). Also, I've been told that even driving it off the front of the crankshaft pulley can create problems, ie. putting too much force or pressure on the key/keyway between the pulley and the crankshaft. Anyone out there can help with some expert advise I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
