Alright, all this knowledge out here and I need some of it. I’m going to build a drag to level out some small fields. The previous owners had Lama’s and they dug beds all over the fields from 4’ – 6’ across and from 1'to 2’ deep; I need to fill them in. I’m in central Oregon and the soil is a sandy loam with LOTS of rocks. I’m working the ground with a 5’ Rotatiller and want to pull a 6’ wide drag to help smooth out the fields.
I’m planning on building it out of lumber. 40 years ago, Dad had a drag he pulled behind a disc to level out our philbert orchard; it worked good but I’m not sure if it would level very well. It’s design was, 6) 4”x10” planks overlapping each other like a staircase, this left the ground very smooth but we did not have any rocks and the soil was a loam type.
