Most hour meters count the number of revolutions, more or less. So it isn't really hours, it's hours at some RPM (e.g. 1500). So mowing hours generally accumulate on the meter a lot faster than any other kind. My tractor has been mostly used for mowing (I have about 8 acres clear), blowing snow (500' driveway in WNY), and hauling dirt, rocks and brush. I put about 140 hours on it in the last 18 months, and sometimes it sat for weeks at a time. Do the math, and you will see that 1140 hours in 17 years is pretty light use.
