Chris is right . We raised Holstein bull calves for years . What I found to work best is to get them on full feed as soon as possible . I used a " Braden Bottle " It is a plastic bottle you hang in the pin . It holds dry pelleted feed . When a calf is done with its bottle it will suck on the feed bottle and get some feed . The sooner you get feed through a calf the lot less health problems ( like scours ) you will have . Be sure to check their navel often . I would put a Holstein on full feed at 3 days old . I never let them run out and sold 1300 lb . calves at 13 months
