I use plastic on just about everything except sweet corn and beans. We lay drip tape under the plastic and can trickle irrigate and fertigate as needed ... or when I get around to it. The plastic has it's advantages but also disadvantages also. Picking it up and disposal is a real pain. We use mostly black 1 mil embossed plastic but I use some white plastic for cabbage and lettuce. The white is heavier and mor expensive because it is a layer of black and a layer of white.
