I know golf course equipment doesn't really count as lawn tractors, but I thougt some readers of the board might be find this interesting. Since I work on a golf course, I see a lot of interesting equipment. The one I liked the most is a Jacobsen F-10. It is front-engine, front wheel drive and rear wheel steer. It has 16" dual wheels in the front and 15" single wheels in the back. The engine is a 3.9 liter Perkins 4 cyl. diesel. It has unbelievable power! It is rated at 74 hp and something like 192 lb-ft of torque. This machine mows with reels. It has seven of them. Two out front, one on each side, (inline with the front wheels), and three across the middle, below the driver's seat. Width of cut is 15 feet! It has a 4 speed stick with granny first gear. The power goes from the engine, through the clutch and into the trans. Then directly into a transfer case, which transfers the power straight down. Then a tiny, very short drive shaft with a CV joint goes forward, under the engine, to the differential on the front axle. This is a 1981 model, and the new ones look just like it and still use the 3.9 Perkins. This machine still sees occasional use, but needs a lot of work, mostly in the hydraulic arms and joints that lift the reels. The engine runs fine. Barry
