52 Case DC Waterpump removal?

Is there a trick to remove the simple 3 bolt pump from my 52 DC? After removing the bolts the waterpump remained firmly in place untill a heavy hammer was used to nock it loose. With some additional banging and prying it seperates only about 3/16 from the block, then the impellar binds and the pump won't come out. Is the impellar just rusted up or is there a trick, like remove the pump housing first? Thanks, Rick Dukes
