Bruce, there is a pipe that runs from that hole in the pony engine to the heat exchanger (air intake)on the diesel engine. when this pipe is hooked up the pony engine is real quiet, and the diesel will start better in cold weather. JD stores may have one, if not try a salvage yard. luck.
