Hooked the tractor on the baler in the yard last evening so I could get a good start on baling that last field, soon's I got home from the substitute teaching job this afternoon. Went put a can of gas in the tank, noticed the SMV sign laying on the ground behind the tractor, then noticed seat pushed way up under the steering wheel. Battery box is under the seat on this JD B. Yup, they had slipped in the yard sometime between last evening and this afternoon and swiped the battery. Tractor had been converted to 12v, so it could have been used in someone's car. Area where tractor was parked was probably 75 feet away from the road, very near one of two mercury vapor yard lites, so it took some (round spherical things) to drive into yard and swipe it. Called the sheriff, and a deputy came out and took a report. Probably will go into a file on computer, never to be seen again. Meanwhile, I got to buy about $50 worth of new battery. Old one had several years on it, but was still good, not planning to have to replace it this soon. Gonna have to do something. Son wants to use that tractor this weekend for his getaway car from his wedding. He got it from his late great uncle, and granddad, and restored it. He wants to use it in recognition of those loved ones in the family who have gone on before.
