If the system is still charged then it sounds like an electrical problem to me. First I"d check voltage at the clutch when the system stops working. if you"ve got voltage there and the clutch isn"t engaging then it"s a problem with the clutch windings. Too, like Dave said, there should be a pressure switch, or two on the system that could be giving the problem. Depending on how it"s set up there could be a seperate low and high pressure switch or it could be all combined into one switch. Either way it"s designed to cut power to the compressor clutch so if it"s acting up the clutch won"t engage and the system won"t work. If you don"t have power at the clutch find that switch and the next time the system stops working check it. If your getting power across it it"s fine, if not that"s the problem. The best thing though would be to get a wiring diagram where you can see the switches, etc that might be causing the problem. The system in my Freightliner quit several years back and turned out to be the blower stitch not sending power to the relay to let the A/C system work. Without the diagram there"s no way I"d have known where the A/C system was fed from and would still be looking for the problem. Good luck.

After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
