Mine is a 69, not 79 - and has the HD four-speed with non-synchro low gear and a separate transfercase with a little driveshaft inbetween.
You've probably got the A833 trans made by New Process. Four speed, side-cover with separate shift linkage, came in cast-iron or aluminum. All synchro and fourth is an overdrive. Dodge used it in cars from 1964 - 1980, and light trucks 1976 - 1985. Chevy and GMC also used it 1981 - 1986 and called it the NP833 - RPO code MY6. I've got several of them - including in my 1982 K10 6.2 diesel pickup and an 84 6.2 diesel 1/2 ton van.
It has a max. engine-torque rating of 260, 1st gear - 3.09. 2nd gear - 1.67, 3rd gear - 1, and fourth OD -.73, and reverse - 3.
