Be sure to check out Scale Models also, Probably 12 blocks or so away from The show. They have a open house, and if you have any Scale Models, ol Joe will sign it for you.
If it is your cup of tea the Field of Dreams is a few miles NE of Dyersville.
Seems overall a rain coat and a water proof jacket is a must have item for the toy show weekend often.
Brightbocks (spelling) about twenty munites away is the old style family restrant near the Mississippi River bluffs and is highly recomended. Lots of old junk hanging on the walls etc.
Guttenberg is about thirty Miles North--Lock and Damn 13 --Just off Hwy 52. You can CROSS OVER TO WISCONSON IN Prarie Du Chine. Just probably four miles South of Prarie on the Iowa side is Pikes Peak. And just probably four miles North on the Iowa side is Effegy Mounds.
If you decide to come north on Hwy 52 to 18--then to Prarie, Frolic is a quarter mile out of your way. If you need to start being dishonest to the little lady you could always make a left instead of a right,(junction 52 and 18) and decide to turn around in Frolic--golly everyone can make a miss turn.
Spook Cave will also be about three miles North of Hwy 18-- A underground cave that you can tour---everyone rides in a small boat--it is cool temperature in the cave so wear a jacket. All the above are free except spook cave, and that I would guess is less that five bucks each. Motor Mill will be about fifteen munites West of Garnavillo, a old stone mill building that is very large, a work of art, and I know the tour guide, and she owes me a favor maybe. If you would like you can Google those places probably, or if you prefer I will check them out in detail for you.
If you do go North through Garnavillo, one half hr North of Dyersville you can watch the cars rust and our toe nails grow.
The leaves may or may not be 100% in color.
Wisconson has the House on the Rocks, Wisconson Dells may be on the later side of the season, but like tourist dollars year around. Again Google if you are a little interested. NE IA Dave 563-964-2670--24/7 if I can help don't hesitate.
