I just brought quite a bit of used oil to the recycling center. They have an older gentleman monitoring the dumping of the oil and he asked what is in the oil. I said old oil was in the oil containers and asked what else would be in the used oil. He said that some people dump old gas and paint thinners and carb cleaner in the oil and that the recycle center sold the used oil for heating oil. He said that it is fine to put old cooking oil in the used oil container along with the used motor oil but they could not use it if it had any brake fluid, gas, diesel, carb cleaner, thinner or antifreeze in it. So it looks like you can mix the two and have good results.
The recycle center sells it to a oil processor who evidently subjects it to a filtering process before selling it as heating oil. I don't know what other additives they might put in or how they may blend it with processed heating oil.
