Hook the positive or negative, if positive grond, then hook the other to the frame away from battery. have some do this so you can disconnect as soon as tractor starts. don't leave the 12 volt hooked up for more than it take to hit starter and start engine. While cranking it will pull most of the voltage away from the 8 volt battery so it won't hurt it. But like I said connect hit starter and disconnect. I have done this many times and never had any trouble. Walt
