We may never do it - I find the prospect of moving kind of scary. As an adult, I've only lived two places - Northen Vermont - and here in central New York. I've been collecting old trucks, boats, guns, tractors, etc. for over 30 years here - and have it piled up all over the place - inside and outside. I know that much of it would never get replaced if I sold it off. New York has some of the most beautiful areas in this country. We own land in three different areas - here in Otsego County near Cooperstown, up on the Tug Hill Plateau in Jefferson Co., and also in Hamilton Co. in the Adirondack mountains. That makes it tough to find land in a place like Michigan and get very enthused. We have seen a few areas in the UP that have some rolling hills - which is at least better that flat drained swamp full of small "popple" trees. This area is getting a bit too crowded for my tastes and taxes are getting nuts. Thirty years ago - just in our small town alone - we had over forty dairy farms. We now have two. I wonder though, if the same problems will exist everywhere in the USA soon? In regard to getting a trailer - I have a gooseneck and can pull with my Ford diesel F250 or my Dodge Cummins. But, it would be - at best - one piece at a time and a long haul. We usually do take the upper route through Canada and camp along the way. Step number one would be finding a place in the Michigan UP we actually like - and that has not happened yet. If it does - then it's on to step two - what to do with all this stuff. Another option we've considered is not selling off our New York properties - at least not right away. At least that way, I'm not burning my bridges - and I can leave equipment stored here, and take all the time - and years - I want to move it. But, that means paying a lot of taxes, and not getting any cash from the properties we own now. Main thing is - we no longer have any family here. My adult children all moved to Colorado near Denver. So, all my older children and my grandchildren are out west. But, we have a new child - just turned four years old. Thus the problem. We want to give him the chance to have some family around while he grows up (other than us) and also - or maybe - a chance to grow up in an area that will stay more rural for awhile. My wife's parents live just below the big Mac bridge in Alpena - which is too civilizied and big for our tastes. But, a move to the UP would put us pretty close - yet - far enough away in the boonies.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
