Mike, on the air cleaner tag on my F14, I painted it and then very lightly buffed off the raised lettering with some 600 grit wet 'n dry sandpaper. It ain't perfect, but it looks pretty good at arm's length. On the serial number tag, I sprayed it and than buffed out the lettering with a Q-tip just barely dampened with paint thinner. Lotta work, but looks pretty good.
