I decided to build a new tractor shed before winter. Nothing fancy. I accumulated enough ribbed metal from auctions to skin the outside. Total investment under $300. Lumber was salvaged from a couple old buildings I took down. No cost. Nails, screws, ect, what I had laying around the shop. Paid for years ago. No cost to me at this time. So, I have about $300 in this 16" X 32" shed. I go to the friendly neighborhood hardware/lumber yard/landscape supply/political debating center to get strap hinges and a hasp. Hinges. $9.88 each X 12 (2 pairs of doors, 3 hinges each) 2 hasp"s, $8.99 each. Total cost of harware (w/ tax) almost $150. Upon return from hardware store, I find the county building inspector in my driveway. NO PERMIT! (permit for a freekin" shed?) Ugh! Delinquent permit fee + permit, $335. Now my $300 building is at $785. Not bad for a shed that size, but NOT $300. Everybody has to get a piece of the action. Everybody except me.
